Griffith gets a taste of Hollywood !!!

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood is a long way Banna Avenue but the two may collide sooner than you think.

Up and coming TV star Krystle McGill was in town this week to scout locations to use in a trailer for her new US television series.

She stopped to have a cannoli at Betoldo’s, chomped down a burger at the Area Hotel’s Hot Olive Bistro and sampled some of the fine wine Griffith has to offer.

Ms McGill said her trip out west had been one to savour.

“I love it out here,” she said.

“I've never been here but I actually had family growing up here as my aunty was here for 15 years.
“I was saying how I really wanted to come out here, and because we decide where we want to scout our locations we decided to venture out here to scout locations for the show.”
She said there were a few things about Griffith that will stick with her for quite some time.

“We've been to a couple of the wineries, Bertoldo's, because it's very Italian type bakery, and it’s all been amazing,” she said.

“I love the people, they're very down to earth.

“The wine is phenomenal and it's just a very beautiful feel.

“It's very family oriented around here.”

Although the show will be set in America, she said she wanted to capture the main character’s (who she will play) heritage.

“The filming and stuff will take place in America later on but I want to do the trailer in Australia because the TV show is about an Australian girl going to America, and how does she cope over there,” she said.

She has already made good use of her master’s degree in journalism and six years at NIDA with her show Krystle Live bringing her to the spotlight.

“Krystle Live is like a late night talk show type thing where we get up and personal with people, like an Ellen DeGeneres type show,” she said.

“I wanted my own concept show and I was doing a million things at once and realised I needed a bit of direction, somewhere that can drive me, and that’s what led me to this.”

Chasing the Hollywood Dream - one headline at a time

Hollywood is the dream factory and 22-year-old Krystle McGill is chasing her place in it as hard as she can.
Some of her story sounds dream-like, but there's little doubt her enthusiasm for fame is real.
The Sydneysider has caught the media's attention by being dubbed "the next Kim Kardashian". Dubbed by whom?
Well, she and her agent or "creative director" Joey Sulfaro maintain it wasn't them but actually Hollywood director Oliver Stone.
They were having drinks with him in the United States and Stone apparently decided McGill looked "a lot like Kim Kardashian" and decided to call her Kim from then on.
The media has picked up on it and McGill has suddenly been called Australia's next It Girl.
"It's not a marketing ploy," Sulfaro said, of the Kardashian reference.
"If you can find another 22-year-old who's done as much as Krystle, then I take my hat off to her. But there aren't many of them around."
McGill and Sulfaro are in Canberra this weekend at the invitation of radio station 2CC where she helped to present Friday's drive program. They are also scouting for locations in Canberra to include in a trailer for a scripted TV comedy, in the spirit of Entourage, about an Aussie girl moving to LA.
McGill would star in the series which they hope will soon be picked up and made in Hollywood.
"We've pitched it to the majors," he said.
She originally came to the attention of Sulfaro through a mutual friend in the paparazzi. Sulfaro was convinced he had found the next big thing.
"I knew she was the girl," he said. "It was just a matter of making her over."
McGill says she has been working in the media – from community radio to local newspapers – in some capacity since she was 14. She says she got her masters in journalism at the age of 20. The University of Sydney did confirm that Krystle McGill graduated with a Master of Media Practice last year.
Sulfaro has used his contacts in the US to get her to cover red-carpet events and interview celebrities, mainly for broadcast online or to sell on the footage to networks.
They talk of having drinks with Jack Nicholson to watching Saturday Night Live at the home of Hollywood producer Brett Ratner.
She is also adding to her "brand" with clothing, jewellery and makeup lines. Sulfaro claims a sheikh is interested in investing in the products and opening 50 stores.
McGill, who grew up in Manly, also visited Canberra often as a child and urged Sulfaro to include the national capital in the pilot trailer.
Among the locations they are interested in showing are Manuka, Civic, Parliament House and perhaps even the Ottoman restaurant, whose owner Serif Kaya is a long-time acquaintance of Sulfaro's.
"Canberra is such a pretty place. Everyone says it's sterile but it's a beautiful place," Sulfaro said."The trailer has got to catch your eye and there aren't many places like this in the US. In Beverly Hills, they're either over the top or tucked away in the valley. This is a point of difference. That's the best thing about it – she's an Aussie and we want to show that."
